Working the Net...

When speaking to high school, college and motion picture industry audiences, I find that the term "networking" often works its way into the conversation. I tell them that I break the word down and view it as a process that means "working the net." The key is to then determine who, in the room, the database or in the social site group should be "targeted" for inclusion in my "net," based on my own business needs. The next step is to focus my attention on those resources in order to optimize time, reach a more productive relationship and to serve as a point of professional introduction. This approach has worked quite well.  Once the strategic contacts are made, I then follow the "six degrees of separation" philosophy and have brief talks with everyone else, learning and sharing more...
